About Me

Me and my hubs.
Hi, I'm Julie!  I live in Jamestown, NY with my awesome programmer husband and my two silly cats, Spices and Sunshine.  We have a cute little home in the city with a small yard and a big garden!  Someday I want to move to the country so I can have an even bigger garden and maybe some chickens.

I've been a homemaker for about eight years now, and an artist for as long as I can remember.  I really enjoy being away from the busyness and pressure of the world; it gives me so much freedom to create.  Plus, I honestly enjoy being a homemaker, or at least the parts that don't include cleaning up gross messes.

Hubs and I don't have any children.  We tried for three years and started getting fertility tests, when we decided that we didn't really feel like it was worth the heartache to go through treatment.  By that point, we had had a chance to really truly think about kids and why we wanted them, and we discovered that we wanted them for all the wrong reasons (to give our parents grandkids, to have someone to take care of us in our old age, etc).  So I'm grateful that life threw us that little curve ball.  Now we're free to pursue the things we're passionate about instead.

The most ridiculous cat in town

Something I have become passionate about recently is designing plastic canvas patterns.  Why?  Oh gosh, I don't know.  I think I just woke up one morning and thought "YES, plastic canvas!" and started doodling on graph paper.  I've been an artist forever, and I like to experiment and try now techniques, but nothing has made me feel as excited as designing patterns.  I wake up everyday full of energy, and I stay awake at night just brimming with ideas!

Spices, queen of cute

I'm not sure why I chose plastic canvas; I suppose I like a challenge.  I know it's totally unhip right now, and I guess there's part of me that wants to change that.  I feel really passionate about this; it would be such a shame if the art of plastic canvas just died out because all the cool kids were too busy taking pictures of their food or knitting dresses for their dogs.  I guess that's why I started this blog, because I want to share my ideas and my enthusiasm for plastic canvas with the world.  I guess I was hoping to meet others who love PC as much as me too.  So if you love PC, I hope you'll stick around and join in on the fun!

  1. Hello Julie,

I’m a freelance writer and am putting together a roundup of Free Plastic Canvas Patterns for The Spruce--a site that offers practical and inspiring ideas to make your best home. The article will gather lots of projects in one convenient place. I’d love to include 1-2 of your projects with your permission. Please let me know at your earliest convenience if I might include one of your photos, a link back to your site, and a brief description of the project in my piece.

    Happy Crafting,
    Megan

  2. Hi Julie,
By any chance would you go by a slightly different username for posting product reviews (still sounds like your 1st name) and have a very specific out-of-print plastic canvas books-on-DVD from a well known retailer?
I have a question for you...my mother in law loves to crochet and do plastic canvas. If this is the same person, you might know what I'm talking about based on two replies I made on one of your reviews.... if not, then I'm not giving anything away by being somewhat secretive here. :) Please contact me if so.....Thanks!
